Perspectives on the Management of Infor Mation Technology

Question: Required to conduct research on a topic related to strategic management of information systems, making reference to appropriate theory, literature and empirical evidence. The topics must be related to the following scope: Strategic impact of IS. Answer: Strategic management of information system Introduction: The purpose of the research is to discuss the significance and importance of the Management information system in the organisation. The objective of the report is to discuss the role of MIS in the Mc Donalds and how this strategic information system is helpful in the growth of an organisation. The MIS helps in taking decision for the benefit of the company. A company where the required and significant information is not present, it may lead to poor planning, inappropriate decision making, poor priority of the needs, and even the error scheduling of the programs as well as the activities. The significance of the information for the proper decision making leads to the improvement of the MIS called as the management information system for the companies and the organizations (McDonald, 2011). The MIS in the process of the decision making is aimed to develop a specific system for the effective use of the modern information approach for the advanced and modern management usage and practices. Literature review: MIS is connected with the streamlined processes for the collection, storage, processing, and transmission of the required information so as to support the entire management and its operations in the entire organisation. MIS is a system which provides important information that is needed to manage the affairs of the management effectively. It involves significant three primary resources, namely the technology, people and the information (McDonald's Corp, 2007). The MIS generates three kinds of information Detailed Information Summary Information Exception Information MIS helps in the production of the periodic information or reports like the daily list of present employees and also the number of hours they work in the company, and also the monthly report of the expenses incurred by the company (Bailey, 1987). McDonalds uses the monthly information system to get the profitability and the information to assist the managers and also the staff to plan for future innovation and profitable plans and directions. Impact of Information Management System in Mc Donalds: The MIS is being used very often by many of the businesses, all around the world. The MIS is actually made and designed by the senior management and is brought into use as a tool for the accumulating and the assembling of the facts plus all the concerned figures which involves the working and future profitability of the concerned organisation including: Financial management Inventory management Technical foundation Asset management Forecasting Expense and the time management Procurement Work and force management The implementation of the MIS in McDonalds ensures that appropriate flow of the information to the relevant departments and further to the employees without the bottlenecks. This assists in the making of the decisions, not only at the companys internal level, but also at the external level. The entire concept and process of the MIS brings out complete, timely, reliable, and excellent quality of information to the decision makers (Botha and Boon, 2008). The MIS impacts McDonalds in following ways: All of the MIS in McDonalds ensures that accurate and much timely transaction of the processing is ascertained. The processes become much more efficient as the chances of creating any kind of duplicate data entry is much lesser. MIS helps in the streamlining of the records and the accounting management in the McDonalds. The business becomes much more standardized all because of the presence of MIS. The MIS provides support to the manager that helps them in making quick and efficient decisions. The MIS ensures systematic as well as an easy way to find out the significance and critical information which are required at each and every step to the concerned organisation. The MIS because of its feature of time saving ensures that the organizations gain competitive advantage in the market on its peers (White, Jones and Beynon-Davies, 2015). McDonalds has got market share in the South Asia, but is required to do much more of the research and also gather significant information as far as the new flavours are to be introduced, the expectations of the customer and all of the other relevant information about the market. After gathering this information, this food chain business holder needs to aggressively communicate the information much efficiently to all of its employees so as to order to for the internal opinions of the final decision making (Brydon, 2006). After the information regarding the likings of the customers is gathered with the MIS, by collecting information along with the data and criteria of information, the McDonalds will be able to have a much greater level of the insight and flourishment of the business manifolds. Types of Management information system in MC Donalds: An exchange between two people is called as the transaction. These transactions are considered as the important events for any organisation company, and the process of collection of the data which concerns about them is known as the transaction processing (vom Brocke, Mathiassen and Rosemann, 2014).Some of the examples of the transactions are such as withdrawing of the money from checking account, making any kind of purchase at stores, making payments to the creditor, paying salary to the employee etc. Because of the reason that the transactions generally involve the exchange of financial money, it is thus critical to protect the data during the transmission as well as the stored carefully so that it cannot be changed. It is also important that data is saved, so that the managers can at any time verify the data in case of any complaints of quarrels (Grimshaw, 2000). The sale and purchase of the data from the foundation of the financial systems and the accounting of every company are important, so that the system must produce standard reports. This system is much certain to revolutionize the fast food industry of the country. The McDonalds management has applied this TIOS (Touch Interface Ordering System) so as to minimize the labour costs. POS (Point-of-sale) System: McDonald's also takes appropriate use of the POS system which stands for the point-of-sale" so as to ensure that the orders are made and served quickly and also accurately, as it will accelerate the sale of the business products and business processes. With the help of these systems, each and every command is very quickly transmitted as the cashier can easily get to know about the instant payment which is due (Gusev, 2013). Business Strategy and the Information Management Systems: Decision Support System: By taking into use the DSS, which stands for Decision Support System, it helps the company make the right kind of decision making which is based upon the quality of the available data and also its ability so as to analyse the data. McDonald uses the Wi-Fi in all of its restaurants in order to gather important information about the customer practices and the sales (Kruger and snyman, 2005). Payment System: McDonald has always been using and trying to bring into implementation all of the new as well as the innovative ways for the use of the technology so as to improve the customer service and enhance its profits at the end. McDonald has been at times, always expanding all of its use of some of the electronic system which lets the customers pay for their electronically way (OJIRO, 2004). By the systems, McDonalds takes into use all of the ultra modern technology to let the customers pay for their bills. This system enables the customer place an order, the order immediately appears on the screen of the kitchen of the restaurant and the orders are prepared as per the requirement of the customers with in no time. This basically is a new method of ordering, and makes the customer attract towards this system, and they also suggest others to visit the place and enjoy the new method of ordering, this also helps to save the time, and also less manpower is thus required by the company for taking orders from the customers (Teubner, 2013). Hyperactive Bob system: By this system, McDonalds uses modern technological ways to facilitate their working. When a customer makes or places an order, immediately, then an icon appears on the screen of the computer in the kitchen and further a bell ring which alerts the kitchen staff about the order being made by the customer and he starts with the preparation of the same. This system is also very attractive and helps to save time as well as cuts the cost for the company as well as not many of the waiters are required in such cases as well to take the orders from the customers and the clients also feel excited by using all of these technological methods (Papachristos, 2014). McDonalds can bring into use all of these tools and modern techniques so as to expand their market share and sales as well in the in Asian market region. The necessary requirement is to make a survey in each and every dimension and further communicate this information within the workers of the organization. No scope of any kind of bottleneck is required to happen in the organisation communication. The process of decision making can become much easier if in case all of the above steps are completed, followed and also clearly streamlined within fixed tenure of time as discussed and then implemented. By building up of such innovative ideas McDonalds is definitely sure to get an enhancement of its business within no time, as these plans shall work for the increase of customer incoming gin the restaurants of McDonalds and also the competitors present in the market shall have to work much harder to win customers form MC Donalds now.(Sasai, 2005). Evaluate and monitor Management Information System: The MIS at any of the organization has primarily been dependent on the quality of the information and also its source that is research, people and other sources as well. These systems are maintained by a company by using the Information Technology plus the systems. These days, as more and more companies are taking the use of the information technology and systems, the amount of financial investments in the Information Technology and Systems have enhanced so much and also to manifolds (Shenolikar, 1981). Also with the improving significance of the Management Information System in all of the organisational setups and infrastructural development, the outcome and performance of the new technology which are being used remains an important focus for the management. Further, this evaluation process of the MIS requires the appraisal of the techniques that are being taken into use for the information systems development. Significant evaluation process notifies the technologies which the McDon alds is taken into use so as to integrate the information systems among the organisation as well as within the organizations. This also includes the costs, risks, and the benefits associated with the adoption and diffusion of any certain technology for MIS and also impact the assessment with the help of the management information system of a company (Kruger and Snyman, 2005). These MIS is so important that the correct sales per day or the number of customers who has visited the place are very easy to find out, no written documentation is required to be done, and any kind of dip which sometimes comes into a business can easily be tracked and further tackles that such do not repeat again. Recommendations: The network of the Mc Donalds is widely spread and the information is to be intense, hence it is important for the company that the intranet system is to be redesigned. This will help to implement the CMS management system, which will further help the company to maintain the information all across the site in the consistent and efficient manner. It shall also be significant so as to improve the privacy issues and security of the information about the company in order to make sure that no secret and confidential information which can affect the company and also its stakeholders shall be taken away from the compays system(Gusev, 2013).. Further, the anti-virus as well as the firewall shall be improve plus maintained so as to ensure that there shall be no unauthorized entities and illegal access to the files and the data of the concerned company. At last this is also very significant that there shall be no viruses at all and the likes which shall destroy the vital information concerning the company. McDonalds should also revise all of its product prices plus there are still a lot many of the opportunities for the McDonald Company to enhance the number of the outlets (Gusev, 2013). Thus, at least this is well concluded that the MIS which acts as the data, disclosure of each company helps in the present situation of growth or dow nfall in any of the company plus provides us ways so as to tackle the situations which are adversely affecting the growth prospects of the company. Conclusion: In McDonalds, the implementation of the MIS system that is used so as to produce the periodic reports like the daily list of the employees and total tenure or number of the hours these employees in concern has worked and also any kind of monthly report of the expenses which come across the company to be made as compared to the pre planned budgets (Leslie, 2015). McDonalds takes the use of the Management information system as the purpose of these MIS is to provide significant profitability and also such information so as to help the managers and all of the staff well understand the performance of the business and then plan any kind of the correction if required (Tavakoli and Perks, 2001). The entire MIS of the company completely focuses of the important ratios, marketing analysis, strategic plans which can assist to analyse the present condition of the companys aim of fulfilment of the profit earning aims. The important technical information also focuses on the alarming variance analy sis and any kind of exception reports which helps companies come back to profit earning mode if in case anything goes away and not as planned way to success. McDonalds can very easily emphasis upon the facts that are significant nurtured and shall help the company reach the highest of heights and also predict the ongoing trends of the markets (Masuchun, Davis and Rangsaritratsamee, 2006).
